Protest against Lobbying Bill

Fiona Mactaggart MP joined John Howarth from Reading at a protest in Westminster square today against the government’s lobbying bill.  “This law is designed to silence protest” she said, Charities, trade unions, and lobbyists themselves recognise it is bad legislation. It won’t stop Lynton Crosby from advising the Prime Minister on behalf of Tobacco companies which pay a company from which he profits, but will prevent charities like Cancer Research UK from campaigning about the dangers of tobacco within a year of an election.  I shall be voting against the bill in the House of Commons today but I joined the demonstration to show my support for the right to disagree”.
