Budget 2013 Vote

iona Mactaggart MP spoke on the eve of votes on the Budget today. “The Budget means tough times for everyone: by 2015 people will be worse off than they were in 2010, as the independent Office for Budgetary Responsibility made clear last week.”

“I have fought for a freeze on the petrol duty escalator and a cut in beer duty, and I was happy to see those measures introduced as they’ll provide some small measure of relief to financially stretched individuals and families. But it’s not enough. Slough has so many hard working people and businesses which will be hit by the lack of growth.”

“In his Budget the Chancellor didn’t say “we’re all in this together”, as has been said in the past. With unemployment in Slough rising and wages falling the fact that millionaires are getting a tax cut in April meant even he didn’t have the nerve to pretend to be suffering the same hardships as those he has failed to protect.”
