Fiona Mactaggart MP’s Comment on Alzheimer’s Carers Support Group Launch

Speaking at the launch of the first Alzheimer’s Society sponsored carers support group in Berkshire launch this week at Wexham Park hospital, Fiona Mactaggart said “As secretary of the Older Women’s Commission, I was shocked to find that 1 in 3 women who retire in their 50s do so to care for someone else, usually a family member.  And too often the men and women who care for a loved one who has Alzheimer’s feel lonely and don’t know how to find their way through the complicated health and social care systems they have to negotiate.  I welcome this support group because I know it can be a lifeline to the carers who contribute so much to the needs of the most vulnerable people in our community.”
