Slough MP Comments on ‘Boris Island’ Announcement

Commenting on the news that the Airports Commission has rejected the Thames Estuary airport idea, Fiona Mactaggart, MP for Slough said, “This gives much greater clarity to Slough. Although I always thought it was a fantasy idea, I’m glad the idea has finally been ruled out and with it the Mayor of London’s plan to close down Heathrow and thus hit the prosperity which has been so carefully built in the Thames Valley and Slough

“Heathrow is extremely important to Slough, according to some reports, closing Heathrow would cost Slough nearly 17,000 jobs and that isn’t acceptable. If we can get effective measures to cut noise and pollution a third runway at Heathrow would bring more jobs to our town. “
