Slough MP, Fiona Mactaggart this week attended an event in Parliament to discuss the ongoing issues in Zimbabwe. Fiona spoke to those originally from the country who were concerned about human rights abuses there.
Fiona said, “Zimbabweans in Slough like every other group of concerned residents have important concerns which the government must respond to, I have previously raised the unfair and undemocratic elections that took place in Zimbabwe. The right to free elections and human rights is essential and the ongoing situation in Zimbabwe is wrong. It has created refugees who are unable to return to Zimbabwe, although that is what they want to do. I will work with other MPs to hold a debate to push the Government to act on democracy and human rights in Zimbabwe. Britain, as the former colonial power has real responsibility towards people there.”
The event was held in Parliament yesterday, on 19th January. Also present was former Africa Minister, Mark Simmonds.
